Once logged into Epicor, and you are ready to perform the action that seems to be running slowly, perform the following steps. For my example, I am going to do a Job Load in Job Tracker. Normally this process only takes a few seconds, but there are times when it takes 2-3 minutes, so this is to see what is happening during those long load times.
- Open the screen just prior to doing the action that takes longer that normal. [I am opening the Job Tracker, in preparation to typing in the Job Number]
- Go to your main Epicor screen
- Click the small up arrow at the bottom of the screen
- There will be some icons on the left. You want the icon that says 'Tracing Options' when you hover over it. It should be the icon to the far right.
- There will be a Tracing Options form that appears. The default settings are fine, you will just have to click a few buttons to initiate the process.
- Click the Clear Log button
- Make sure Enable Trace Logging is checked
- Click Apply
- Switch to the screen and do the process that takes a long time.
- Once the process is finished, switch back to the Tracing Options form, un-check the Enable Trace Logging, then click Apply
- Next to the Current Log File, there is a View button. Click that to open the log file in Notepad
- Save the file to your desktop, or Document folder.
- Create a new email addressing it to 'ClientTrace@versalift.com', and attach the file generated above. Please add some details into the subject or message text as to what the exact issue is for us to look over. An example would be 'Job tracker takes more than 3 minutes to load a job, when it normally takes 5 seconds'
- If it is the opening of the form that takes a long time to occur, there are a few things you can do to help that load time, especially on frequently used forms.
- Once a form is open the first time, go to Tools -> Option, and check the Memory Cache checkbox. This will cause the system to load the form into memory when you start Epicor.
- One caution when you do this, it is takes up memory. I would only do this for 4-6 forms, or you risk running out of system memory on your computer
