Imaging/Re-imaging Computers checklist

 

  • Begin with the most recent version of Windows 10/11 media creation tool setup on a USB Flash Drive
  • Plug the flash drive into a USB port on the device
  • Power the desktop on and hit F12 until the boot device menu appears
  • Select the USB flash drive in the list of the boot devices
  • You will load into a menu that shows languages and input select next

  • The next menu will say repair your computer and install now, select install now A computer screen with a blue background

  • Accept the notices and license terms and click next
  • The next menu will say Which type of installation do you want, Upgrade or Custom. Select the option that says Custom: Install Windows only (advanced) A screenshot of a computer

  • The next menu will show different partitions, you will want to click each partition and click delete until there is a singular partition that says Drive 0 Unallocated SpaceA screenshot of a computer

  • After the computer restart you will load into a screen that says Is this the right country or region. Make sure United States is select and click yes.
  • The next one will ask is this the right keyboard layout or input method. Again make sure US is selected and click yes. A screenshot of a computer

  • The next screen will ask you to name your device. The naming scheme we use for desktops is PC-Serial Number and for laptops LT-Serial numberA screenshot of a computer

  • The next page will ask you Who’s going to use this device. Enter ITLocal where it says to enter your name. A screenshot of a computer

  • The next screen will say create a super memorable password. The password we use for a temporary password is Clift0n1965!  Enter this in the spot that says enter a password A screenshot of a login screen

  • On the next 3 screens it will ask for security questions, for each on select a random question and for the answer enter Rover roll overA screenshot of a computer

  • On the next screen it will ask you to choose privacy settings for your device, on each toggle switch click it to where it is no longer blue.
  • After all of these steps are completed you will be loaded into desktop screen, you will want to right click on the start button and then select the option that says settings. A screenshot of a computer

  • You will load into a screen that shows multiple selections on the left with the pc name, network connection and windows update at the top. After you load into this screen there will be an option on the bottom left of that list that says windows update. Select this. A screenshot of a computer

  • You will then load into a screen that says Windows Update and no updates available with a button to the right that is blue with the word check for updates in it. Click this button. A screenshot of a computer

  • Windows will begin installing updates. Let ALL updates complete. If anyone of them need a restart again let ALL updates complete before restarting. A screenshot of a computer

  • After all updates are completed and a restart is needed, select the restart now button and wait for the computer to restart.

  • After all updates are completed we are going to want to domain join the computer. This is completed by going into the system option on the left hand side and then scroll to the bottom and select about.
  • The next screen will show 3 options underneath the window that shows device specifications. Select the one that shows Domain or Workgroup. A screenshot of a computer

  • You then enter the computer name in the bar that has the button saying add computer, then click add computer and then navigate to the bottom right hand corner and select deploy now. A new window will pop up with 2 buttons one will say network id the other will say change. Click the one that says change. A screenshot of a computer

  • The next window that opens states Computer name/Domain Changes with 3 spots underneath that can be filled in with one named Domain. Click the dot by Domain then enter Timemfg.prv and click ok. A screenshot of a computer

  • You will then enter your computer credentials, click ok and close out of all windows and restart the computer. A screenshot of a computer

  • After the computer reboots you will want to open PDQ and locate the correct workstation or laptop package for whichever location the computer is going to. A screenshot of a computer

  • You will click deploy at the top right and click deploy once.

  • Let this run until it says successful. After this go ahead and log into the computer with your credentials and navigate to file explorer. After opening file explorer navigate to This PC on the left hand side of file explorer. A screenshot of a computer

  • Click on Vol2 (R:) and scroll down to a program called OfficeSetup.exe and double click to open it. Click yes on all prompts and let this install. A screenshot of a computer

  • After this is all completed the computer is ready to be installed or shipped. Please ensure in the zone the computer is either logged or assigned to the user it is going to. 
  • Add the computer to the correct OU within active directory after the computer is completely imaged
